How often do you hear one song from a band and wind up loving every single song on an album the first time around? I wish I had found out about this group sooner, but I absolutely dig it. I stumbled on The Ghost Inside on Pandora, then listened repeatedly to the whole album on Amazon Music, until I finally had to own it on vinyl. For me, it''s like bringing the iconic vibes of the 60''s to the modern era, integrating both a play with digital sound and a hint of melancholic loss of innocence. I''m really looking forward to treating myself to their After the Disco album next - I can listen to the title song all freakin day.

Amazing record. One singer, James Mercer, but so many different characters to his voice! You know him from the Shins, but here he''s exploring so many different sounds and textures- the dude has RANGE. The structures of these songs are innovative, with some devastating bridges; they really take you on a journey more complex and rewarding than many predictable pop songs. That''s the thing, I guess. They aren''t predictable. Between Brian and James, they have wide-ranging musical interests and you also get many kinds of songs, and different flavors within songs. I got this album from the library and listened to it at least 50 times in 3 weeks. I wanted to support the music so I bought it here.

I really like this one, it''s hard to find good indie rock without every other word(s) being Cigarette, Teenage, It''ll Be Alright, and My Girl. From the actual music to the execution of the recording itself, the album is really well produced and does not sound overly compressed as so many albums do today. Granted it is not as natural as a Norah Jones recording! But for what it is, very enjoyable.

I rarely review music. Part of the reason is that I don''t feel as knowledgeable as I should be to keep up with the real music critics or even the fans. That said, this is a smart and beautiful album. It has captured my attention in a way nothing has in a long time. I caught The High Road on the radio going to work one morning, and it immediately hooked me. I looked it up on You Tube, where I have been listening to that song and Vaporize for a while, and picked up the album as soon as it was available. Every single song is complex and interesting and beautiful in some way - no filler here. I think my favorite song on the album is Your Head Is On Fire, which sounds amazing to me. It''s a beautifully layered piece of work that calls to mind pop music from the early and mid sixties (which I know about from a childhood spent listening to my father''s LP collection). Other favorites are Trap Doors, The Mall & Misery, and of course The High Road, which I love and think the video for is also amazing.

James Mercer of The Shins has combined his formidable songwriting with Danger Mouse''s sonic genius to produce this masterpiece of a record. There is nothing to skip here: you can play it alone, quietly as gorgeous background music, or at a party, volume loud; on both levels it works! If you listen to what''s left of radio, you probably won''t be able to escape "The High Road" (track 1) this spring and summer, but then again you won''t want to. Like the very best of music by The Shins, this song has more delicious hooks than most full-length CDs. Even my crankiest friends admit they like it. Other personal favorites: "Vaporize" (track 2) with James Mercer sounding a bit like John Lennon, "Your Head is on Fire" (track 3) and "The Ghost Inside" (track 4) with Danger Mouse at the forefront. All the songs have something to love: wonderful atmospheric sounds, great beats and melodies, and clever lyrics (no lyric sheet, so pay attention). Buy it, play it a few times and it will never leave your CD player, that''s a promise!

This is a great album, beginning to end. The High Road and Trap Doors became my favorites, but at some point I could no longer skip over most of the songs between them. It is so hard to compare Mercer''s work with The Shins to the collaboration with Burton (aka Danger Mouse). The song writing is fantastic, but the tone is more sedate and melancholic, yet somehow inspiring. It was well worth the time both musicians took away from their other projects to create this album. While not a true concept album like Pink Floyd''s the wall, the album is so well connected and flows so well together, it deserves to be heard uninterrupted beginning to end. Such albums are rare to find. I so hope they tour again together.

Wow. The reviews were right. These guys together have put out a great album. From the first listen through, I already liked most of it. There are a couple of songs in the mix that I thought didn''t fit with the over-all flow. But overall, having a first release with this many good songs on it is pretty amazing.

The two of them work together so well on this album, I''m hoping they stick around for a couple more. Great first release. Listen to the sound bites and check it out for yourself.

For those of you who are fans of The Shins but felt something was lacking, then Broken Bells may just be the answer you were looking for. There is no denying that there is a distinct Shins-esque feel to this album at times and you can definitely hear Mercer''s influence, but there seems to be another dimension that lifts this from average to very good, and I''m guessing that dimension is Danger Mouse. I first heard the single `The High Road'' on a Q Magazine sample disc and was suitable impressed to buy the album and whilst that mentioned song is one of the stronger offerings, there are also other tracks that stand out and impress. Most notably for me was `Mongrel Heart'' which has great organ/keyboard playing and backing vocals which really add to the track. This is a short album but it is well crafted and plays nicely in the background on a Sunday morning or those quieter mornings at work when you don''t want your music to be over-taxing and in your face. This isn''t ground breaking stuff, but it is very good music and it should please fans of The Shins and those looking for something that little bit different this summer. Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.

I can understand the criticism leveled at this album. Throughout there is a persistent feeling of playing it safe. That this collaboration could have produced something unique and special. That is not to say that this is a bad album. Far from it mes amis. This is a great album, especially towards the end. It''s a Shins album produced by Danger Mouse and there ain''t nothing wrong with that and both excel here. Here''s what I''d do. Get out the sun lounger. Bung on a set of quality cans or in ears and let the music flow over and through you. This is Mercer''s Insomniac, his Kid A. The only question is, when do we get some more!
