Actually the 80 year old eyes have perfect 20/20 and what a treat they enjoyed. I''m an old guy living in a retirement community with a great retirement and a very tolerant wife of 57 years. We no longer take big vacations so I have a very generous budget for anything that plugs in, takes batteries, or is rechargeable. Bought the discs based on great reviews even before I had a 4K player. Good deal 40 bucks for the discs and then $575.00 for the player. (Didn''t share that whole deal with the "lady of the house") Oppo and a 78inch 9000 series curved Samsung. If someone makes it better that what I saw on those discs I hope I''m alive to see it. The beauty of the product is mind boggling and how in the hell did that get those pictures? Which reminds me the "how we did it" disc is worth the $''s alone...great work you Brits.
I buy a 4k disc monthly and watch once with a group of old folks and then sell the movie......not a chance that will happen with these discs....not for twice what I paid.

If you loved Planet Earth, you''ll love Planet Earth II. I''ve always been captivated by this show- the footage they are able to capture is simply stunning! But now that this is in 4K UHD- WOW. It looks like you are actually in the desert, jungle, or grasslands! You can see every fleck of color in the lion''s eye and every strand of hair on the baby elephant''s head! Although it is a bit pricey, the 4K UHD version is well worth the money for how breath-taking these episodes are!

There are 6 episodes in this series- I devoured these pretty quickly and my only complaint is I wish there was more! There is a 3rd disc with bonus content - I''ll have to see what is on that!

**(As the box says, make sure you have a 4K UHD TV, 4K UHD compatible HDMI cord, AND a 4K UHD Blu-ray player before buying this version- a normal blu-ray player won''t play a 4K UHD disc!)**

A phenomenal tour de force for the BBC and their army of natural history photographers. This is the pinnacle of the art and a joy joy to behold. Sadly David Attenborough is too advanced in years to travel the World in person but represents the highest standard in nature broadcasting and his narration is as clear and compelling as ever in his long career.

Clearly a vehicle for the BBC to show off it''s 4K ultra high definition broadcasting capabilities and with a few too many lens flare shots to show they can do HDR (High Dynamic Range). If you have a 4K TV and want to experience it''s full potential, get the 4K Blu-Ray. It is beautiful and you will not regret it.

This is the BBC’s most gorgeous documentary series to date. Planet Earth II has plenty of new elements to admire. The show is eager to share. Narrator David Attenborough, sitting in a hot air balloon above snow drenched mountaintops, checks off each general advancement during the pilot:

The filmmakers were able to get incredibly close to each animal thanks to innovative remote cameras.
Further advancements in technology also meant discovering previously unobtainable “wildlife dramas.”
We can see, hear, and admire these dramas better than ever, with clearer, brighter, and more comprehensive photography than has been possible prior to this.

Better yet, the progress Attenborough heartily expounds is more than evident on screen. Covering islands, mountains, jungles, deserts, grasslands, and cities, “Planet Earth II” literally covers a lot of ground in its seven episodes (the final episode is a “making of”), always with an eye toward beauty and our quickly changing environments. Impossible sights are enticingly strung together, forming stories like nothing we’ve ever seen before.

I’ve seen the content from the internet and love it. I have yet to look at my discs because at the time of writing this, I only just received them. I am going to asume the discs work.

My problem is the shipping package. The case is thin and flimsy yet amazon ships it in a sticky bubble onvelope. So, the case is broken completely on both hinges and has another break across the side. This “brand new” item will never close correctly and looks like crap. I hate that they use this shipping method for fragile items and books alike. When I get books that are “new” the corners are beat up and they look awful and this 4K set looks used and beat up. I hope all of the content plays. If so, I’ll keep the thre discs, but I’m getting tired of receiving new items that look like I got them at a rummage sale.

Wow. That''s some amazing footage. I feel like I need to wear glasses to watch these discs. I watched them on a TCL 55P607 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD Roku Smart LED TV (2017 Model) , playing them on a Sony UBP-X800 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player (2017 Model) . I connected them with one of these AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable, 3 Feet, 1-Pack , and that worked just fine.

Of course the footage in general is great, but the amount of detail in these images is amazing. You can see individual gnats buzzing around, and reflections in the eyes of the animals that you can almost identify as objects, The detail is just incredible. I was blown away. The "making of" extras are pretty cool, too.

If I had to make any criticism, I think the music is a bit loud. But overall very happy with this purchase.

simply some of the most stunning imagery you''ll ever see.
Slight disappointment is that it''s "only" HDR10, while the BBC now broadcasts this in HLG.

Though even while it''s not recoded on disk as Dolby Vision the processing of the imagery is of such stunning quality, pushing HDR10 to the maximum of its capabilities - something that can unfortunately not be said for so many other UHD recordings which feature the same HDR sticker on the box and somehow manage to look flat and noisy / pixelated.

BBC once again sets the benchmark for recording quality in all catebories: video, audio and narration. You really want to know what differentiates a high end 4K screen with a 7.2.4 audiophile surround sound setup from the HD ready TV of old with its built-in speakers? PLANET EARTH II will reveal it. Even more so if your UHD TV and audio setup are properly calibrated. In most cases a 4K TV doesn''t do much better than a decent 1080p unit - that is unless you feed it good signal. This here is among the very best material you can get your hands on and what 4K UHD with HDR actually should look like.

Utterly beautiful series by the peerless BBC Natural History Unit. While advances in technology might have allowed us to get closer than ever before to wildlife, the men and women of the BBC have achieved so much more; a jaw-dropping, breathtakingly intimate window into the (sometimes terrifyingly short) journey from birth to death of our fellow earthlings. This is a love letter to the natural world, and quite frankly nothing I can say here can prepare you for how bite-the-back-of-your-hand gorgeous this series is. It simply has to be seen to be believed.

Those who worry that this might be some heavy-handed sermon re. man''s impact on the planet needn''t be concerned; there is a buoyant, upbeat tone throughout -in fact if anything it can on occasion skirt worryingly close to kids'' TV territory. Having said that, as the series moves from actual to urban jungle, an inescapable sense of bitter-sweet melancholy begins to creep in. Maybe it''s because despite the focus here being more on the positive, innovative, and often strikingly beautiful ways in which populations around the world are inviting wildlife back in to their cities and lives, one can''t help but get the feeling that this is all too little, too late.

Or maybe it''s because the last shot leaves us one final breathtaking moment: A Ninety-one year old, increasingly frail Sir David stands atop the Shard, the tallest building in London. Wind buffets and drags at his hair and clothing, and it suddenly strikes us that our soothingly earnest, grandfatherly Sir David, the man who introduced us to the natural world when we were little, is also reaching the end of his journey. After so many years documenting life on earth, of engaging, enlightening, educating, and dazzling generations of people, he is passing the torch to us. It''s a sad moment, heavy with the guilt of resigned failure. As he signs off for perhaps the very last time, the camera begins to pull back and Sir David is quickly swallowed up by the urban sprawl. The Shard building dominates the city, its local nickname "The Eye of Sauron" a painfully accurate metaphor for the enormity of problems we must now face alone.

I am really enjoying this series, just like the first Planet Earth, although there is only 6 episodes on 2 discs, I enjoy the perspective on the earth that this series provides. I''m saddened to say, though, that my anxiety does peak near the end of each segment, since David Attenborough has to mention in each episode how humans are destroying the planet. I understand why he has to say it, that''s super important to stay aware of!! But when you already obsess over climate change and recycle others'' recycling for them, or do what you can to help the environment - either by donation or volunteering - the mentioning of how we are ruining the planet for ourselves and the beautiful creatures on our planet can be upsetting. As long as you''re prepared for it, and know it''s coming near the end of every episode, you can allow yourself to enjoy the documentary and know that the message is for those that may not be aware or may need a better understanding of how our minute decisions impact our world.
